Dorothea Lange

Dorothea Lange was known as one of America’s greatest documentary photographers before she specialised in documentary photography she had previous worked for a successful portrait studio which she had set up, she later experimented with a different styles of photography such as landscape and taking images of plants and nature however this did not appeal to her as much. She then sleeked models and subjects outside the studio, she first started photographing issues and popular events that were happening such as strikes . She is famously known for photographing issue in the world, one of her most popular work was her work based on the migration of farm workers. She photographed war images which were fairly emotive. She would research their poor living conditions and record them through her photographs. She was partially influenced by Arnold Genthe in her

Angelo Merendino
Angelo based his photography on his wife who suffered from breast cancer; he followed her through her journey. His photography is in the style of documentary photography. Merendino’s work is very explicit and very person to him which is why his work is so remarkable,y. No words/captions are needed to explain what his photos are saying. Emotions, feeling and relationships are shown greatly through his work,  as a result of the variation in the angling.

For my documentary photography I went and photographed the school rugby team I followed them though their training Journey. I also went to photograph the hockey team as they were practicing.

I photographed some action shots, trying to capture the movement in the players. However the outcome of photoshoot was not successful as my shutter speed was not fast enough. In order to capture the movement I needed a faster shutter speed in order to freeze the movement of the arms and the legs when the players where playing. I discovered that documenting the objects and belongings that the rugby team where using would be effective, experiment with different angles by photographing the players from a distance and getting up close and in between the players. The close up shoots where more effective as because from a viewer we feel like we are part of the rugby team.

I then photographed the Hockey team who were also training however they were playing in doors. The lighting inside was a splendid as it really captured the different colour that the players were wearing. The red that the young man is wearing creates a vibrant and warm colour. I seemed to capture movement a lot better in doors, the shutter speed was slightly higher when photography the hockey team.
